Our firm was started in 1961-62 by the Late Mr. Dinkar Chande, B.E. (Civil), F.I.V. F.I.E., who was in practice way back since 1950. He was one of the most senior Architects/Engineers and Valuers of Mumbai. Late Mr. Uday Chande, joined the office immediately on his return from U.S.A in 1972 where he had spent over 3 years obtaining his Master’s degree and obtaining valuable work experience with an eminent firm.

Structural Design

Structural audits and repair consultants
Structural auditing is based on test data, visual inspections, and engineering judgment to assess a building’s condition and safety. It requires understanding the structural system, construction history, and any past repairs or modifications. All findings are compiled into a detailed report to guide necessary actions. Ignoring a building’s health can put lives at risk—when you care for a building, it cares for you.
Before structural audits, repairs and alterations were often done without understanding their impact. Decisions focused mainly on cost rather than necessity, sometimes compromising structural integrity and leading to serious consequences.

PMC for redevelopment
Our role is to guide societies through a transparent and structured process for selecting the most suitable developer, ensuring maximum benefit and clarity at every stage.
We provide feasibility reports outlining expected area gains, corpus, and rent, manage the tender process, prepare developer comparison charts, and assist in final selection. We also support agreement finalization and continue with project monitoring and quality checks to ensure smooth and reliable execution.

Peer review
Peer review involves the independent evaluation of a project’s structural drawings. This helps to ensure technical adequacy and identify potential critical flaws before construction begins. In a structural repair scenario, we have also audited contractors’ bills to optimise billing and save money.

U. D. Chande is a dynamic firm providing consulting expertise in the areas of structural design, structural rehabilitation and renovation. We have designed a wide range of structures ranging from single storey bungalows to high-rise buildings and industrial facilities both in steel and concrete. We have also provided our consulting expertise for several structural rehabilitation and renovation projects. We have successfully undertaken a Mass Housing project where our role was to manage construction and provide a ready product. The project was successfully completed accommodating budget and time restrictions.
